EarthShare California has designated the month of April 2008 as Environmental Awareness Month in order to increase public awareness about the importance of living an environmentally sustainable lifestyle, consistent with EarthShare’s mission. Environmental Awareness Month is designed to encourage citizens, both young and old, from every walk of life, to conserve, recycle, and reduce the carbon footprints they create in their everyday lives.

Environmental Awareness Month runs the entire month of April and culminates with Reusable Bag Day and Earth Day on April 21st and 22nd, respectively as the world comes together in one voice to declare that we will protect the earth and its resources to safeguard the future for our children. Please help celebrate Environmental Awareness Month by being active in protecting our environment through conservation of energy, reduction of waste, and recycling of resources.

Reusable Bay Day in San Francisco

In order to promote our event, the Mayor’s office of the City of San Francisco has designated April 21st as Reusable Bag Day in San Francisco. We are also working with the Mayor’s office of the City of Los Angeles and the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los to also designate April 21st as Reusable Bag Day in Los Angeles.

In both San Francisco and Los Angeles, the overuse of disposable shopping bags is a serious issue, as indicated when San Francisco became the first U.S. city to approve groundbreaking legislation to outlaw plastic checkout bags in large markets and drug stores.
